About
Sarah
Hello.
I’m Sarah, a graphic artist living in Canada.
I create graphic design, artwork, and illustrations by hand through digital painting and some traditional methods.
While I work primarily digitally, using Adobe Photoshop and Procreate, I started my art journey using traditional methods such as water-colour and acrylic paints, ink, and coloured pencils. I have been creating artwork on a more serious level since I was in high school, when I sold my first art piece, a water-colour painting, in an art show.
From 2015 to 2017, I was unable to draw at all due to a severe spine injury. After healing from spine surgery, I was able to begin to use my hand again – but had to relearn and train my hand and arm to return to what I was doing before. On top of this, I also have a genetic collagen disorder which effects recovery and limits what I can physically do. So, I am someone dealing with a life-long disability. Having digital art tools available, whether on my iPad or computer, have made art accessible to me again, as traditional methods can be too physically demanding.
All art displayed on this website are my more current pieces, and have been created from 2017 onward.
My main focus right now is teaching digital art. New art commissions are currently closed. If you would like to get in touch, please feel free to contact me. I’m happy to discuss possibilities with you.
During my 9 years working at Vancouver Island University, I had the opportunity to gain experience, not only in how to design materials used at a professional level – for both online and print – but I was also able to teach some of it. I taught staff (in 1-to-1 consultations, smaller groups, and in larger classes) as well as 3rd & 4th year grad students; covering topics such as ‘basic principles of design’, ‘psychology in design and colour’, and how to use Adobe software tools. I also became a certified Instructional Skills Workshops Facilitator, which allowed me to teach others ‘how to teach effectively’ in intense 4-day workshops.
Working in this environment has made the quality of my work, and my standards for professionalism, what they are today.
